INAMEH confirms strengthening of El Niño in the second half of 2026

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMEH), reported this Tuesday, August 4, that the warm conditions resulting from the El Niño weather phenomenon will strengthen in this second half of 2026 and will last until the beginning of next year.

According to the International Center for Research on the El Niño Phenomenon (CIIFEN), quoted by the Venezuelan meteorological agency, “for the August-October quarter of 2026, warm conditions are expected with a probability of 100%, lasting until early 2027. The models indicate, with a probability of 81%, a very strong peak of intensity for the October-December period.”

He also explained that in July, conditions were maintained with sea surface temperature anomalies, above 2.5°C “and these conditions are expected to strengthen between August and October.

In the same way, he highlighted that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in its latest report, indicated that the coupled ocean-atmosphere system reflected the beginning of the conditions of the phenomenon.

The agency also said that, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), El Niño leads to rising global temperatures and favors more extreme weather and precipitation patterns, so it calls for planning measures and preparing for the future with knowledge of the facts
