This Sunday afternoon, the country's aeronautical authorities addressed an irregular situation at Maiquetía International Airport when an aircraft of the Airlines Laser line began to expel smoke through the fuselage.

As reported by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), faced with the situation, all 92 passengers who were on their way to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, were evicted by emergency slides on the aircraft.

Below is the statement issued by the INAC clarifying the incident:

ANNOUNCEMENT

Caracas, April 28, 2024

The National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), informs the entire aeronautical community and the general public about the emergency situation of the regular Laser Airlines flight to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with an authorized time of 11:30 HLV.

At 11:14 HLV, the doors of the YV2923 aircraft were closed, reversing with 92 passengers. Smoke was seen coming out of the fuselage of the aircraft, so the crew proceeded to disembark passengers using emergency slides.

In the same way, passengers were taken to the triage area established in the emergency plan of the Maiquetía International Airport Institute (IAIM) and to the institution's Medical Service, to comply with the protocols established in response to the incident.

It should be noted that, once the emergency was addressed, the company Laser Airlines changed the aircraft to carry out the flight, applying the corresponding security procedure, disembarking its checked baggage, without news.

Given the events, the Aeronautical Authority will continue to ensure strict compliance with current technical and legal regulations; in this regard, an exhaustive evaluation of security protocols will be carried out by the Simon Bolivar International Airport and the Laser Airlines airline, in order to determine the cause that originated the event, in order to guarantee the Operational Safety of Civil Aviation.
