In 2006, the AN approved the inclusion of an eighth star in the National Flag

On March 9, 2006, the National Assembly (AN) approved the inclusion of an eighth star in the National Flag, representing the province of Guayana and in honor of the decree of the Liberator Simon Bolivar of November 20, 1817.

The eighth star represents the triumph in this province and the rescue of sovereignty in that region important for the independence quest.

“The eighth star is the star of Bolivar,” Commander Chávez emphasized at the time.

Thanks to the proposal of the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, the national tricolor regained its historical value, today our flag is raised by men and women who defend the country's sovereignty against imperial attacks.
