On March 4, 2005, Commander Hugo Chávez traveled to India, becoming the first Venezuelan president to make an official visit to this Asian country.

He held a meeting with India's productive and business sector with the objective of strengthening strategic ties of cooperation.

“A revolution is under way in Venezuela. It is a revolution, fortunately we have achieved peaceful channels, fortunately we have achieved democratic, participatory, comprehensive channels for this revolution, with respect for minorities, majorities, and freedoms,” he said.
