On November 7, 1874, the equestrian statue of the Liberator was inaugurated in Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, in the midst of a great celebration that included the use, for the first time, of electrical devices to illuminate the place, during the first administration of Antonio Guzmán Blanco.
This work by the sculptor Scipión Tadolini is a replica of the one located in Lima, whose author was his father Adamo Tadolini, using the same mold made by the Von Müller Foundry, based in Munich, Germany.
The statue was sculpted in bronze, with a 90% copper alloy. It is 4 meters tall, and represents Simon Bolivar on a horse standing on his hind legs. The set is supported on a two-tier pedestal, made of black syenite stone, with granitoid dots, reports the Yvke Mundial website.
Named a Memorial Monument since February 21, 1959, the sculpture of Bolívar has become one of the most important references of the works made in homage to the Liberator in the country, in addition to the statue created by Prieto Temerani that is in the National Pantheon.
