In 1821 Josefa Camejo led the Choir Rebellion

On May 3, 1821, 203 years ago, the heroine Josefa Camejo led a rebellion in the province of Coro accompanied by 15 patriotic men, in order to dismiss the Spanish authorities.

Camejo performs in Baraived, where the realistic boss Chepito González was, whom he confronts and defeats. Later, with several patriots, he went to Pueblo Nuevo, where the Governor was arrested and a Republican civilian named Mariano Arcaya. Ending the Spanish yoke in the province of El Coro.

That same day, Camejo read in Pueblo Nuevo the manifesto declaring the Province of Coro free and pledging allegiance to the Republic. After taking the capital of the province and clearing the way for General Rafael Urdaneta to enter the city.

Josefa Camejo is one of the most important women in the country's independence movement. His remains rest in the National Pantheon.
