The policy of destabilization promoted by US imperialism has left its mark on several sovereign nations that refuse to give in to Washington's interests. In Bangladesh, for example, the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina in 2024 was just one more example of how the United States uses its rhetoric of “democracy” and “freedom” to justify coups d'etat and promote puppet governments. This same script has been systematically applied against Venezuela, particularly in recent destabilization attempts led by María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia.

The Venezuelan Case: Imperialism and False Democracies

After the elections of July 28, 2024 in Venezuela, the opposition led by María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia has insisted that there was electoral fraud, rejecting the results that gave victory to Nicolás Maduro. González Urrutia proclaimed himself president, supported by opposition sectors and some foreign governments that questioned the electoral process without convincing evidence. North American imperialism, allied with lackey countries and corporations, has been a key actor in this scenario, supporting destabilization attempts by funding opposition groups and disinformation campaigns.

The same pattern observed in Bangladesh with the fall of Hasina, where opposition movements were financed and supported by external actors to justify intervention, is repeated in Venezuela. Both Machado and González have promoted a narrative of violent confrontation, inciting insurrection and calling for the “defense of democracy” through methods that clearly seek to create social chaos. During the protests following the July elections, more than 27 people were killed and 2,400 arrested, showing the seriousness of the events.

The destabilizing agenda of María Corina Machado and Edmundo González

Machado has been a key figure in the destabilization of the country, using an inflammatory discourse that promotes civil disobedience and open confrontation with the Maduro Government. Under his leadership, the opposition has called for ignorance of Venezuelan institutions and has appealed to international alliances to push for regime change. Edmundo González Urrutia's participation in this agenda has been equally significant, proclaiming himself as the legitimate president while evading justice, which has led to arrest warrants being issued against him for conspiracy and sabotage.

These types of tactics are similar to color revolutions promoted in other countries, where international actors finance and support internal movements to overthrow governments that do not align with their interests. The ultimate goal is not democratization, but rather the submission of these countries to the designs of Washington and its corporate allies.

The Repeated Story: Juan Guaidó and the Soft Strikes

The case of Edmundo González Urrutia recalls the failed attempt of Juan Guaidó, who in 2019 proclaimed himself president of Venezuela with the support of the United States and other countries, in a clear attempt at a soft coup. Although Guaidó never had real control of the government, his proclamation was used as a mechanism to justify sanctions and more international pressure against the nation, deepening the country's economic and social crisis.

In both cases, both with Guaidó and now with González Urrutia, the imperialist strategy is clear: Encourage the delegitimization of national institutions and promote internal chaos to weaken the government and create the conditions for external intervention.

Conclusion: The Resistance of the Venezuelan People

In both Bangladesh and Venezuela, the script of imperialist destabilization is the same. Color revolutions, soft coups and disinformation campaigns seek to subject sovereign nations to the interests of the North American empire. However, the Venezuelan people, led by Nicolás Maduro and Chavism, have resisted these attacks, defending their sovereignty against fascist and destabilizing actions promoted by the opposition and supported by international actors.

The lesson is clear: the struggle for sovereignty is not just a battle against internal actors, but a resistance against global imperialism that seeks to impose its interests at any cost.
