The Municipal Institute of Culture and Art (IMCA) recognized photography and narrative as tools to preserve the memory and identity of Barquisimeto during the award ceremony for the “Urban View , Where Light Dwells” and “Urban Verses, Chronicles of My City” awards, held at the Larense History Center.

The meeting brought together cultural authorities, cultivators and members of the jury, as well as representatives of different generations who participated in initiatives dedicated to reflecting the history and characteristics of the city.

The day included a tribute to the chronicler and researcher Ramón Querales, whose contribution to the preservation of the Barquisimethane heritage was highlighted by the president of the IMCA, Flora Ovalles.

“Paying homage to Ramón Querales is very significant, because he was the memory not only of Barquisimeto, but of the entire state of Lara and of our ancestry,” he said.

For his part, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Alejandro López, who was part of the jury, highlighted the diversity of the works and the link of the participants with the identity of Larense. “El Turbio, the valley, the plateau: all those images that we were able to appreciate through different perspectives coincide in the love for the city, in the pride of being a guara or guaro,” he said.

During the activity, Enilber Jiménez, winner of first place in “ Urban View, where light lives”, and Daniel Montero, who won third place in “Urban Verses, Chronicles of My City”, were also recognized. Both shared their experiences and highlighted the value of photography and the word as a means to express local identity.
