The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel this Friday to “prevent” the genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, in response to the lawsuit filed by South Africa for crimes committed by the Zionist regime.

Also, in its verdict, the court required Israel to prevent and punish cases of direct incitement to genocide in the Palestinian enclave, in addition to allowing the arrival of humanitarian aid to the region.

The President of the Court, Joan Donoghue, said that within a month Israel must report on the actions it is taking to comply with the judicial decision, while stressing that South Africa has the right to file the lawsuit, since some accusations fall within the provisions of the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

“The Court is well aware of the extent of the human tragedy that is unfolding in the region and is deeply concerned about the continued loss of life and human suffering,” RT quoted Donoghue, who reiterated that Palestinians have the right to protection against acts of genocide.

The “state of war” declared by Israel since October 7 against Palestinian territory totals more than 26,000 people killed.

The first ruling of the panel composed of 17 judges does not address the main question of whether the Jewish country is committing genocide, but rather examines possible emergency measures, understood as a kind of restraining order, while studying the case in its entirety, which could normally take years.
