The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, announced that he has received threats from certain leaders for his investigations against senior Israeli officials and their way of conducting the war in the Gaza Strip.

“Some elected leaders spoke to me and they were very direct. 'This court was built for Africa and for thugs like Putin, 'was what a senior leader told me,” said the prosecutor, during an interview with CNN.

“I think that's its clear meaning in English,” he answered. Khan called for remembering that “this court is the legacy of (the trials of) Nuremberg” and “must be the triumph of law over power and brute force”.

The reaction comes after the ICC prosecutor requested arrest warrants against the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant; as well as Yahya Sinwar, the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip; Mohammed Deif Ibrahim al Masri, commander-in-chief of the military wing of Hamas, known as the Al Qassam Brigades; and Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of Hamas.
