How much is “El Puma” worth? : Story of the millionaire petition for their support for CAP and El Tigre in the 1988 campaign

It was the end of the 1988 electoral campaign, when José Luís Rodríguez “El Puma” negotiated for millions of dollars his support for the candidacies of Carlos Andrés Pérez (CAP) and Eduardo Fernández “El Tigre”.

While El Puma was negotiating, as a good opportunist, whoever to charge for its support, the “Massacre of El Amparo” occurred, in which 14 fishermen were massacred by a command of the DISIP. The country burned with popular demonstrations with which the singer did not sympathize.

As a good fisherman in a rough river, he supported the winner, since his support could NOT tip the faithful of the electoral balance because the victory of CAP had already been sung by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the White House.

Amid national outrage over the massacre that occurred, El Puma chose to jump the talanquera several times between El Tigre and CAP, until the latter's campaign command paid him the large sum, which can be considered as the price of his loyalty.
