Honduras facilitated a new operation to transfer 199 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States, through a coordinated transshipment at the Palmerola Military Base, evidencing trilateral cooperation in migratory matters under the direction of President Xiomara Castro.
This Sunday, the Government of Honduras provided a new humanitarian operation for the transfer of 199 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States to their country of origin, in a trilateral cooperation exercise that took place at the Soto Cano Military Base in Palmerola.
As reported by the Honduran Foreign Ministry, the operation was carried out following direct instructions from President Xiomara Castro, as part of the solidarity policies implemented by the Central American country in the area of migration.
The procedure, which began at approximately 16:30 local time, consisted of the transfer of 199 Venezuelan citizens from a U.S. aircraft to a plane flying the flag of the South American country. The entire process took about three and a half hours and was carried out “in an orderly and safe manner,” said the Honduran authorities.
The Soto Cano Joint Military Base, located in Palmerola, department of Comayagua, served as a strategic point for this operation, taking advantage of the facilities shared by the U.S. and Honduran armed forces.
This transshipment is part of a series of similar operations that Honduras has facilitated in recent months, framed in what the government defines as “application of the solidarity policies developed by the Government of Honduras in favor of migrants throughout the region,” according to a Telesur publication.
