During the night of this Wednesday, the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras assured that the primary elections held last Sunday were clean and transparent in more than 98% of the country.
Despite the positive result, the agency called for a “thorough” investigation of the causes of the delay in the delivery of electoral material in the capital Tegucigalpa and the northern city of San Pedro Sula.
The president of the CNE, Cossette López, told the media: “we want to get to the bottom of the investigations, to be done in a responsible way, to define, of course, with care, what each thing is about.”
Last Sunday, Hondurans went to the polls to elect the respective candidates from the Libertad y Refundación (Libre), Liberal (PL) and Nacional (PN) parties who will contest the country's presidency in the general elections on November 30.
Last Wednesday, the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, congratulated the Honduran people for the civility shown during the primary and internal elections of March 9 and demanded that the electoral authorities investigate the delays in the arrival of electoral material and inform the people.
