Historic rescue! The coastal entity, formerly Vargas, was named La Guaira state in 2019

On June 14, 2019, the name of the state Vargas was replaced by La Guaira, in order to rescue the history of the coastal entity.

“This is a word that has been maintained for many years, since our aborigines and is still held by the inhabitants of La Guaira,” said the governor at the time, Jorge Luis García Carneiro.

This action was framed by the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, so the proposal was made to the Legislative Council of the entity and then carried out for consultation through meetings in parishes, public and private institutions, teachers, social movements, political parties, among others.
