With the purpose of optimizing the drinking water distribution service in the state of Anzoátegui, the Ministry of the Popular Power for Water Care (MINAGUAS), through the Hydrological Service of the Caribbean (HYDROCARIBE), successfully completed major maintenance work on the Rincon-Molorca System, benefiting more than 395,000 inhabitants of the municipalities of Sotillo, Guanta, Urbaneja and part of Bolívar.

The president of HIDROCARIBE, engineer Lucas Sapiain, reported that among the tasks carried out, corrective and preventive maintenance was carried out on equipment 1 and 2 of the Curaguaro raw water pumping station, which supplies the El Rincón water treatment plant. This important system provides service to 20% of the population of the state's metropolitan area.

In addition, he added that they carried out repairs to the catchment grid of the Curaguaro pumping station and the sanitation of the Caratal channel, which allows a greater amount of raw water to be collected and then purified. “These tasks are important because we must keep our tributaries healthy so that we have more water,” Sapiain said.

In addition, he mentioned that to increase the water input capacity of the El Rincón water treatment plant, rehabilitation work was carried out on the inlet gates of sedimentators 2 and 5, which are the tanks that store the vital liquid, and then the purification process began.

The head of the hydrological company explained that simultaneously, fault corrections were made in the 20-inch drinking water pipe on Montes Street in the Pueblo Nuevo sector and in the 6-inch pipe in the Sierra Maestra sector of Puerto la Cruz, with the purpose of recovering pressure and flow in the system.

In turn, to respond to cases reported through the 1×10 of Good Governance, the replacement of 72 meters of 10-inch PVC pipe was carried out in the community of El Milagro de La Caraqueña in the Sotillo municipality, while, on Municipal Avenue, in the El Pensil sector, four meters of 6-inch pipes were replaced.

Sapiain emphasized that these tasks were carried out in synergy with the government of the state of Anzoátegui and the Mayor's Office of the Sotillo municipality, with the objective of optimizing the drinking water distribution service for the inhabitants of the northern area of the entity.

He also explained that the water system starts the process from the Curaguaro raw water pumping station, which captures the vital liquid from the Caratal canal, and then proceeds to send it to the El Rincón water treatment plant and, having the water optimized, is sent to the Molorca control center to be distributed to the communities.

For her part, the resident of the El Milagro sector, Leidys Santoyo thanked President Nicolás for the support that communities receive to strengthen the water service. “Thanks to the increased maintenance that was carried out on the Rincón - Molorca system, we will have water with higher pressure in the high areas of Puerto La Cruz,” he concluded.
