A storm of intense rainfall recorded in the last few hours caused the overflow of four river channels in the provinces of Los Ríos, Guayas and El Oro, causing flooding in urban and rural areas of six cantons of the Ecuadorian coastal region.
According to detailed information from Radio Miraflores, the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) is constantly monitoring the effects caused by the flooding of the Catarama, Vinces, Tenguel and Pagua rivers, which flooded productive and residential sectors.
As a result of heavy rainfall, the road infrastructure in Guayaquil and its surroundings also suffered collapses and floods at multiple points, while ministerial authorities activated contingency protocols in the education sector to safeguard the school community.
The preliminary assessment of emergency agencies warns of the risks associated with the winter season and the current climate phenomenon, intensifying assistance efforts for vulnerable populations and the provision of temporary housing in damaged areas.
