The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that the rebel people of Venezuela carry in their blood the strength, courage and grit of the indigenous peoples who fought for the defense of these lands before the Spanish Empire.

“We are the heirs of the most beautiful resistance, the heirs of the beautiful, of the legacy of the giants of history, we are the heirs of yesterday's candle-eaters who faced them and who did not kneel down,” he said.

During telephone contact during the March to Commemorate the Day of Indigenous Resistance, the National President stressed that “we are our rebel America, Bolivarian America, the America of Abya Yala and we are proud of our roots, of our worldview.”

In this regard, he urged “to continue fighting to win the worldview of what really happened in the past because they say it was a process of civilization, that it was not a genocide, but a meeting of two cultures”.

“The truth is that on that day the greatest genocide that has ever occurred in humanity began and it must be said,” he said.
