Speaking to the media, after the inauguration of the National Sports Games “East 2024", this Friday the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said that he is watching the debate in the National Assembly on the reform of electoral laws.
From the state of Anzoátegui, the Dignitary indicated that in the process, which has been expanded, “all political sectors are participating; Bolivarianism, Chavism, patriotic forces, such as opposition forces, different oppositions, social, intellectual and university sectors, assemblies all over the country (...) it is an open-door debate”.
The Venezuelan head of state assured that he will await the results of the debate and its conclusions and confirmed his support for “all lines of action that emerge from the dialogue and the broad debate that exists in terms of the reform of electoral laws and in the matter of proposing the electoral calendar.”
Regarding the municipal, state and legislative elections next year, he specified that they should be held in separate processes. “First mayors then governors and then Parliament, but that's my opinion, one more opinion in the debate,” he said.
Finally, he stressed that “the truth is that in 2025 the electoral holiday continues in Venezuela and the reforms that are going to be made of the laws will strengthen what is the institutional base, so that the country continues to make progress in strengthening its institutional base, in its electoral base in an autonomous, sovereign manner, without anyone sticking their noses and hands into Venezuela.”
