During the presentation of the Annual Message to the Nation before the National Assembly, Public Authorities and the Venezuelan People, President Nicolás Maduro noted that during 2023 the sanctions imposed by the North American Government were still in force, affecting and conditioning the functioning of the economy, public finances and foreign trade.

“The cash silver we had in banks, equivalent to 22 billion dorales, including 32 tons of gold that are still sequestered in London, in the United Kingdom, was taken from us, robbed and frozen in the world,” he explained.

In this regard, he said that blocked and frozen accounts throughout the global financial system, “are real acts of war.”

Maduro assured that all the sanctions even affected the mobility of Venezuelans, “to this day, 40 aircraft of the Venezuelan flag carrier, Conviasa, are still sanctioned.”

On the other hand, he recalled that a large modern cargo aircraft, which based its activity on global solidarity, “is still hijacked by the Judicial Party of the Republic of Argentina, violating all international aviation regulations .”

In addition, he pointed out that 39 PDVSA vessels have been sanctioned, which are responsible for foreign trade in our oil industry.

“Public banks are still blocked, there are more than 150 public and private companies, national and foreign, sanctioned for operating in Venezuela. Likewise, sanctions were maintained for the purchase of medicines in the international market, as well as for supplies, for the public service station,” said Maduro.

The Head of State said that any international financial transaction carried out by the Government of Venezuela remains at risk of being kidnapped, arrested and funds frozen due to the threat of sanctions.

“The sanctions and persecution against the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, against the country's main political leaders and against all public powers, are still in force, but it hasn't worked for them, nor will it ever work for them with our country. North American Empire, we were not born on the day of the cowards, we were born on the day of the brave, of the patriots, of those who believe in the future,” he added.
