Head of State proposes joining efforts to make CELAC a Confederation of States

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, proposed, as a long-term objective, to turn the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) into a Confederation of Peoples, States and Governments.

During the XXIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), he emphasized that the realization of the proposal requires “having the strength, capacity, will and political independence”, faithful to the flags raised by the promoters of the full freedom of colonial vassalage.

“(...) In the spirit of unity that characterized the liberators, consider that one day we may have the strength, capacity, will, and political independence to move from a powerful CELAC to a Confederation of Peoples, States and Governments of Latin America and the Caribbean, a new CELAC where Puerto Rico is also a new free, sovereign and independent State,” he said.

However, the Venezuelan president stressed that in the short and medium term, the common goal must be the strengthening of CELAC, whose pro tempore presidency is held by the president of Honduras, Xiomar Castro.
