During his
participation in the XII Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and
Prime Ministers of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade
Agreement (ALBA-TCP), the President of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the need to promote
agroecology within the AGROALBA agreements.
“It is a topic
that we are insisting on, the debate that exists in the world
between the production of organic food and destructive agriculture full
of chemical and pesticide fertilizers that destroy the earth, but what
's more, they destroy the human being, generate cancer,
early senile dementia and diabetes with that poison,” he criticized.
He said that the
processing of food with chemical additives “is a great debate (...) a
controversial issue because I know that in all our governments we have officials who
defend the application of transgenic seeds and pesticides, we are in that
debate with the defenders of transgenic seeds and with the defenders of agrochemicals.”
The president pointed out
that more than a debate “it is almost a fight within the framework of the AGROALBA project
and the steps that need to be taken to move forward. And may we have early victories
in the production of rice, in the production of beans, in the production of
meat, in the production of chicken, milk, vegetables, eggs, in the production
of food in all the ALBA countries and reach the point where, together, we will produce and export food
to the world.”
In this regard,
he highlighted the importance of the 1st AGROALBA 2025 Fair, for the exchange of
new businesses and the development of the productive capacity of our countries.”
