The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during his speech at the 9th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), described it as the most serious civilizational aggression since the era of fascism and Nazism against migrant peoples in the United States.

“Our migrants are persecuted as criminals, but in a special way we denounce from the country the application of a law contrary to human rights, such as the Foreign Enemies Act of 1798, an anachronistic law that criminalizes any migrant in order to capture him and take him to a concentration camp in El Salvador. We are currently experiencing two aggressions, one of an economic nature and one of a humanitarian nature against our migrants,” said the Venezuelan Head of State.

He also pointed out that “the aggression is against the entire world, the economic trade war against 180 countries, has unleashed what can be described as the end of Western globalization, commercial, economic, international and public law, as well as bilateral and multilateral agreements on trade, and the World Trade Organization has been buried.”

He also stressed that “the offensive that exists against the entire world, against our region to try to impose an era of imperial domination, forces us to consider a collective awakening of the consciousness of peoples and governments that we love our sovereignty, our self-determination, and we have a deep love for the dream of a future in freedom, with sovereignty and independence, with prosperity won and worked by our peoples in the fruitful union of our region”.

The head of state also said that “the union of our Peoples is an obligation and must be built on the basis of the heritage that we have managed to contribute and accumulate from proposals, and CELAC must forcefully resume holding the councils of ministers, as Honduras has done with its extraordinary presidency.”
