The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the important need to advance the original project of a new Penitentiary System to rescue, educate and protect human beings, giving instructions to the newly appointed Minister of People's Power for the Penitentiary Service, Julio García Zerpa, to end the corruption that causes procedural delays.

“We must end the corruption of the Penitentiary System and build a new governance,” he ordered.

He stressed that a new phase arrived in this system, after in 2023, there were “some very certain blows: Tocorón, Puente Ayala, La Pica, the Trujillo prison, where we are going to build a university, I have already approved the project and the resources, Tucuyito also ran out of those plans”.

“Most of them were captured and others fled,” he said.

During his radio program “With Maduro de Repente”, where he invited the governor of Carabobo, Rafael Lacava, the head of state, he stressed that a new generation of guardians must be trained.

“It can't be that the convict or the detainee is charged for taking him to the bathroom, that can't be and if they have to transfer him, the procedural delay is made, because he doesn't have the money to be transferred, the bandit to the corrupt,” he denounced.

He added that “there will be honest people because they are among the guardians and my message to those honest people: resist because a new phase has arrived”.

The National President indicated that this new phase will be carried out to ensure that prisons are places of stability and respect for human rights.
