The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro,
recalled, through his account on the social network X, José María España,
martyr of the independence movement, on the occasion of commemorating 225 years since his assassination.
“225 years ago, José
María España, martyr of the independence movement, rose to immortality, who was cruelly
executed by the forces of the Spanish colonial power after the discovery of the revolutionary
movement for the liberation of Venezuela, in which he actively participated,” wrote the Head of State.
José María España was a
Venezuelan military and politician who was the protagonist of the pre-independence conspiracy between Gual and Spain.
