The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, this Monday, February 10, emphasized that Colombia must assume its responsibility to protect its border with Venezuela.

“The Colombian Government has not occupied, nor does it occupy, nor protect, nor does it monitor its border with Venezuela. That is a problem for Colombia to solve,” he said.

In that regard, he pointed out that “I have seen very clear words on this subject by President Petro, about the need for development, for example, he was talking about alternative economic development, replacing 50,000 hectares of coca leaves with hectares of another type of product, food that is so needed.”

In this scenario, the head of state reported that he has proposed to the Colombian Government to create a Binational Joint Development Zone to generate greater employment, growth and economic momentum, between the North of Santander and the states of Zulia and Táchira.

“But, we have not received a response from Colombia, which has the responsibility to control what belongs to it. Venezuela, has complied with the presence of our FANB,” he stressed.

He stated that “that proposal has fallen into the air. Colombia, the Colombian State must assume its responsibilities, to have a presence, to protect its people. Exercise their sovereignty and control their part.”

“We, with our part, are complying and overcomplying with the presence of our glorious Bolivarian National Armed Forces,” he said.

He added that the Bolivarian Government has made a great effort to combat criminal groups, “without getting involved in the Colombian war, which Colombia must resolve in any way it chooses. We always help politically and diplomatically.
