The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, awarded this Tuesday to Julio César León Aranguren, the first Venezuelan athlete to participate in the Olympic Games.

During the Flag of the Delegation of athletes that will participate in the Paris 2024 Games, the Head of State praised the work of this 99-year-old cyclist, who represented the country in the international competition held in London in 1948.

He stressed that León Aranguren is “truly an example for all the boys and girls who are starting out in life. Life can be good and long and for it to be long it has to be satisfying, a healthy mind, a healthy body, a healthy society,” he said.

“As President of the Republic, I want to put this award on the chest of this Venezuelan athlete, an example of several generations, with a lot of love, as a gesture of recognition from all of Venezuela to people like Julio César León Aranguren, who has left his example to several generations, the first Venezuelan in an Olympic Games,” said the President.
