  • 25 years ago, on December 15, 1999, with an overwhelming victory, the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (CRBV) was approved by popular consultation.
  • In the Constitutional Referendum there was a participation of 44.38%, where the YES swept away 71.78% of the voters. On the other hand, the NO obtained 28.22%.
  • After the approval and promulgation of the Bolivarian Constitution of 1999, the most dispossessed sectors of the country, ignored for 40 years (1959-1999) of a farce remembered as Representative Democracy, became visible.
  • The document proposed by Commander Hugo Chávez himself, in close collaboration with the People, brought with it the dignification, in its entirety, of the human person and the exaltation of the values of the spirit of Simón Bolívar, Simón Rodríguez and Ezequiel Zamora, the founding fathers and always in force of this ongoing process.
  • This Constitution, considered to be the most extensive catalog that exists in terms of the protection and defense of Human Rights, is today the most advanced on the planet. The undisputed legacy of the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.
  • For the first time in the history of Venezuela, all the country's social forces were summoned to approve the guidelines and programmatic bases of their own destiny.
  • In his own handwriting, Commander Chávez imprinted the Bolivarian and revolutionary character of this masterful text, sparing no effort for its approval and entry into force on 30-12-99.
  • With its entry into force, the right of all members of the Armed Forces to vote and participate, in fusion with the People, in all the processes of a new national and international strategy to insert Venezuela as a power country in a multipolar world was guaranteed.
  • Likewise, the previous rights of indigenous peoples to obtain maximum recognition and participation in the defense of their ancestral rights were enshrined.
