(WHAT's happening in Venezuela, November 15, 1964)

  • The State crime against Rafael A. Urdaneta was committed with such cruelty and cruelty that it deserved the front page of several newspapers, in addition to the following editorial in the weekly QUÉ... of 15-11-64: “The Leoni government is now in the dock. The accusation is simple and dramatic: malevolent terrorism from the height of power. The evidence has been accumulated by various sectors of public opinion and exposed to the knowledge of the people. Dozens of political prisoners have ratified before the Internal Policy Committee of the Chamber of Deputies the torture, harassment and abuse they suffered in the basement of the Las Brisas Building. Deputy Jorge Dáger, a parliamentarian of the FDP (Popular Democratic Force), denounced in the House one of the most horrendous crimes known in the political history of Venezuela: the murder of high school student Rafael Urdaneta, perpetrated by minions of the General Directorate of Police in San Felipe. From Maracaibo, as if all the complaints were few, political prisoners also report the martyrdom to which they have been subjected. These are new charges added to the shooting of Soto Rojas and Trino Barrios. So far, the government has been shamefully silent about those who are known to be guilty. But the people will continue to demand exemplary punishment for those responsible for such denigrating crimes.”
  • 60 years ago, on October 15, 1964, Rafael Urdaneta traveled to San Felipe, edo. Yaracuy, on a mission of the Youth of the Communist Party. He was arrested near the town of Guama and transferred to the Yumare Theater of Operations 5 where he was tortured by Digepol agents. Later, while still alive, he was taken to the public square of Aroa where he was lynched and butchered by members of the armed gangs of AD.
  • Rafael Urdaneta had carried out an intense work of political activism in the Cemetery, Car and other areas of Caracas.
  • On the occasion of the numerous arrests and political persecution to which he was subject, he decided to open operations in other cities, taking advantage of his organizational capacity in the rural areas of the Morán district of the state of Lara.
  • It was thanks to the parliamentary block of the FDP and the Revolutionary Nationalist Party (PRN), in the voice of José Vicente Rangel, that all the evidence about the monstrous murder was collected.
