Haiti: Gang leader demands detailed plan to achieve peace

Last Friday, the leader of the Haitian gang group G9, Jimmy Chérizier, known as “Barbecue”, demanded that the international community present a “detailed plan” for peace in Haiti as a requirement for a dialogue table to consider the possibility of laying down arms in the country.

“The coming days are going to bring worse things than there are now,” predicted “Barbecue”, for some a leader in the people's struggle against corrupt politicians, who also heads the Viv Ansanm (Living Together) group, a gang alliance that tries to control the most violent gangs and that ousted Prime Minister Ariel Henry from power.

Chérizier, a self-described revolutionary former policeman, said during an interview that his views on the current crisis in his country, possible solutions and the role of international organizations, as well as the role of the Kenyan-led international peace force, whose deployment is planned in the nation.
