As part of the commemoration of the 534th anniversary of the Day of Indigenous Resistance, this Monday, October 12, a great river and land march was held that started this one from the Angostura Bridge in Ciudad Bolívar.

The governor of the state of Guayana Esequiba, Neil Villamizar, in the company of communities and indigenous peoples of the territory, led the activity that exalted the struggle that, for more than 500 years, the native movements and communities have carried out.

The event was attended by the governor of the state of Bolívar,
Yulisbeth García , the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal; the Minister of Popular Power for Women, Yelitze Santaella; Deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, Vice President of Religious Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), as well as Bolivarian mayors and mayors, legislators, social movements and all the strength of the Bolivarian Revolution .

The regional president recalled that Commander Hugo Chávez always recognized the importance of indigenous resistance and all the efforts they have made over the years to maintain their territory, customs and traditions.

“What a beautiful march, and today we find the whole East united, with our original, indigenous and ancestral communities of the states of Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Monagas and Sucre. From this immense Orinoco, we will move forward, we will win,” he said.

For her part, the governor of the state of Bolivar, Yulisbeth García, said she was proud to welcome all the states of the East, “who came to visit, to walk the streets and to commemorate, in a great act of sovereignty, 534 years of indigenous resistance.”

Deputy Maduro Guerra stressed that Venezuela continues with the same resistance as more than 500 years ago; the resistance of Simon Bolivar and the liberators, the resistance of Hugo Chávez.

He read a message sent by President Nicolás Maduro from New York, in which he highlighted the resilience and courage of indigenous ancestors such as Guaicaipura.

“Together we will move forward, defending our Homeland. God is with us, with the People and above all, with the original communities that have resisted more than 500 years of struggle,” he said.
