- Giovanni Pantoja, a 29-year-old petty officer of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), was another of the 43 people killed during the guarimbas convened by Leopoldo López and financed by María Corina Machado with financial aid given by USAID to the NGO SUMATE.
- At 12:30 noon, Pantoja was shot in one of his eyes when, together with other GNB colleagues, he was preparing to clear the parapets of a guarimba in the El Trigal residential area of Valencia, edo. Carabobo.
- The shooting was carried out by members of the opposition paramilitary groups. Another officer, Darwin Canelón Roa, was shot twice in the leg. Both were admitted to the Méndez Guerra Clinic. Pantoja died at 5:29pm that same day.
- The following day, in GNB Regional Command Number 2, military honors were given to Second Sergeant Giovanni Pantoja Hernández. From there, the funeral procession started to Maracay, escorted by the General Commander of that military component, Major General Justo Noguera Pietri and the head of that military unit, General Arquimides Herrera Ruso, and hundreds of comrades in arms.
