Guarenas: City of Brave Warriors (+anniversary)

On February 14, 1621, the city of Guarenas, the Plaza del Estado Miranda Municipality, was founded, a town heir to stories that marked the trajectory of Venezuela.

The Mirandina entity is full of revolutionary struggles, which is why the name Guarenas is derived from the indigenous Huerena voice that means grass or meadow. Home to the Caribbean ethnic group, to which the Chagaragotos belonged, whose chiefs Aramaipura and Guaymacuare gave much to do to the Spanish invaders.

The Guarenas and the Chagaragotos, in turn belonged to the family of the Caracas Indians, who lived by hunting, fishing and gathering, and cultivated corn, cacao, tobacco and cereals. Its social organization was simple, horizontal, egalitarian, and the cacique was barely distinguishable from the shaman.

At the beginning of the 16th century, when the Spaniards came to invade our lands, despite their superiority with their weapons, Los Guarenas and Chagaragotos resisted until they dyed our lands with their heroic blood.

“Land of courageous indigenous people who heroically resisted the Spanish conqueror and who in 1989 was a pioneer in the rebellion of peoples against neoliberal capitalism. The 'Guarenazo' was the prelude to the phenomenon that was Hugo Chávez as an expression of popular struggles in rejection of the neoliberal policies of the governments of the Fourth Republic; we are a people full of history, that we have much more to write about than we have written so far,” he said the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, on February 14, 2020.

This beautiful cultural city is the same one that celebrates the party of San Pedro, San Juan, Miguel Parra, that of Armando Urbina, that of Rodolfo Santana, the one where Bolívar spent the night.
