On July 12, 1947, Gualberto Ibarreto, a prominent singer of traditional music in the country, was born in El Pilar, Sucre state.

From a very young age he was linked to string instruments, because his grandfather was a luthier and his grandmother a mandolinist. He received his training in singing in a self-taught way, which through observation and listening he learned from popular musicians in the area. In addition, some musical notions in the academic of Tobías Hernández and Father Raúl Benedetti.

His innate talent led him in 1973 to make his first presentations at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). He won first place in the 1st University Festival of Venezuelan Song, held at the University of Los Andes.

But it was in 1975 that he released two songs that brought him to the fore: Ah Coward Body and María Antonia. At this time he also ventured as a film actor and music producer.
