The first vice-president of the United
Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, announced for
this Thursday, February 29, a “big demonstration” in the city of Caracas to
commemorate the 20th anniversary of Commander Hugo Chávez's anti-imperialist declaration.
During the
party's press conference, Cabello pointed out that that day the leader of the Revolution,
“clearly, without any doubt, expressed his political position, and the
political position of the Venezuelan Government to be totally and absolutely anti-imperialist,
and from there, then, all the attacks on Venezuela.”
In that sense, he explained that “
for a revolution to be a real revolution, at some point, it has to clash with
imperialism; and we have been clashing for quite some time and we have
survived and will continue to survive thanks to the conscience of a People”.
On February 29, 2004, Commander
Hugo Chávez, from the Botanical Garden in Caracas, rejected the actions and
interferences of the United States and the Organization of American States (OAS), which at the beginning of
the year would have increased aggressions against Venezuela.
“Bolivar's prophecy was fulfilled. The
United States of America seems destined by Providence to plague America with misery in
the name of freedom and all governments that
in one way or another oppose imperialism begin to be attacked,
demonized and run over,” said Chávez.
