The Emergency Operations Center of the Dominican Republic (COE) increased to 11 provinces and the National District on green alert due to cloud increases due to a flood affecting the national territory, the Telesur website reported.

“The COE increases 11 provinces and the National District on green alert, because a flood at various levels of the troposphere has been generating cloud increases,” the entity reported in its account on the social network X.

In this regard, it is expected that “the greatest activity of heavy and moderate downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of wind will begin to occur starting in the early morning of this Wednesday and Thursday over most of the provinces of the country's Caribbean coast”.

The provinces on green alert are: Peravia, Pedernales, Barahona, Independencia, Azúa, La Altagracia, Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana.

In view of this, the entity recommended “that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and glens that present high volumes of water in the provinces under alert”.

For its part, the National Meteorological Office (ONAMET) predicted for Wednesday “from the early hours of the morning, the deep trough and the low-pressure circulation in the southwest of the country will affect the Dominican territory with a significant increase in rainfall that could be moderate to strong and even torrential, with electrical storms and gusts of wind, with cumulative forecasts that could cause floods, river overflows, streams and gorges”.
