Since this Tuesday, the government of the extreme right Javier Milei suspended the websites and social media publications of Argentine public media.

According to official sources in a statement, the Argentine government “only the Digital and Institutional Media Manager” will be responsible for managing the Public Television and National Radio networks to “unify distribution criteria”.

The measure began at midnight this Tuesday and affected the website and networks of Public Television, National Radio, the FM Clásica, Rock or Folkloric music channels and the thematic channels Encuentro (cultural) and Paka Paka (children).

This decision by the neoliberal government of Javier Milei, is in addition to the intervention of the national media since February 5 and the closure of the state news agency Télam in March together with the Public Content and Education platforms.

Faced with this determination, the press unions denounced an “information blackout” and “censorship” in public media by the libertarian administration, rejecting any attempt at privatization. They also highlighted the “silencing of Télam”.

In this regard, the Buenos Aires Press Union (Sipreba) issued a note demanding that senators defend public media, rejecting their privatization and the Bases law that is being discussed in Parliament.

In addition, they criticized the fact that the Milei Government has eliminated the directory from public media and is moving forward with a plan for its destruction.
