The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexico expressed its firm condemnation of the recent attack by Israeli occupying forces on a refugee school in Gaza, which resulted in the tragic death of at least 18 people, including humanitarian personnel from the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA).
In an official statement, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena, expressed Mexico's support for the call of the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, for an immediate ceasefire.
He described the attack as an unjustifiable and unacceptable violence that must be stopped immediately, the Telesur website reported.
Through her social networks, the head of the SRE called on all parties involved to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and commit to the protection of the civilian population. The official stressed the need to put an end to violence and seek peaceful solutions.
The Government of Mexico also condemned the attack on the school in the Nuseirat Palestinian refugee camp, which had been designated as a shelter and which resulted in the death of several civilians. The Mexican authority highlighted the seriousness of this act and the need to protect civilians in conflict zones.
Mexico requested the creation of humanitarian corridors in Gaza and the West Bank, to facilitate the evacuation of Palestinian patients. The SRE also called for the full access of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross to detainees and hostages; as well as the continuation of polio vaccination campaigns.
