Government of Colombia and FARC dissidents announce first cycle of peace negotiations

The Colombian government, led by President Gustavo Petro, and the dissent of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) known as the Second Marquetalia, led by alias Iván Márquez, announced the installation of the first cycle of peace negotiations.

According to information published by Telesur, the event is scheduled for June 24, 2024 in the city of Caracas, Venezuela.

The agreement establishes that the Peace Dialogue Table will begin on June 24, extending the first cycle from June 25 to 29, with the purpose of agreeing on the specific issues previously announced and defining the negotiation protocols.

The signatory parties, represented by Colombia's peace commissioner, Otty Patiño, and 'Márquez', former negotiator of the dialogues that led to the 2016 peace agreement.

The installation of the Peace Dialogue Table will take place in Caracas on June 24. The first cycle of negotiations will take place from 25 to 29 June to agree on the specific issues of the announced points and the negotiation protocols.

The trading cycles will last one week, extendable by mutual agreement, with intervals not exceeding 30 days.
