The delegations of the National Government and the former deputies of the National Assembly of 2015 agreed this Wednesday to review a set of laws and to promote actions for the release of Venezuelan gold deposited in the Bank of England, after the end of the third cycle of talks that began last October 14.

Among the legal instruments that will be evaluated are the Law on Political Parties, Public Meetings and Demonstrations; the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law against the Imperialist Blockade; the Organic Law of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic and the National System of Fiscal Control; and the Organic Law against Organized Crime and Financing of Terrorism.

In the area of the Judiciary, the parties highlighted the work of the preliminary commission that interviewed 127 candidates from civil society. The head of the government delegation and president of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, explained that in the regular session scheduled for this Thursday, October 22, the 12 members of civil society who will make up the Judicial Nominations Committee will be appointed. “We highlight the efforts of the working groups aimed at reconciliation and institutional strengthening of the country,” Rodríguez said.

They also agreed to set up a joint delegation to manage the release of gold to the United Kingdom, the lifting of precautionary measures against the media and the creation of an Office of the Ombudsman for Political Guarantees. The representative of the AN 2015, Dinorah Figuera, insisted on the need to establish concrete mechanisms to guarantee political rights, pluralism and the re-establishment of citizen guarantees.

The financial resources from these efforts will be allocated as a matter of priority to the care of communities affected by the earthquakes of last June 24 and to the recovery of public services. Finally, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to join efforts to guarantee access to health, food, education and the improvement of workers' incomes.
