Comprehensive rehabilitation work on the Maracay-Choroní national highway is progressing continuously, after the completion of the mobilization operations of the seasonal workers who remained in the coastal parish after the landslides occurred, said the mayor of the Aragüean municipality of Girardot, Rafael Morales.
He explained that recent rains caused rockfalls, sediments and mass movements at various points along the road.
In this regard, Morales highlighted the peculiarities that hinder intervention. “We are facing a mountain road, with very particular conditions. It is not a road that can be easily extended or replaced by an alternative detour. That is why we must intervene responsibly, addressing every critical point and guaranteeing, above all, the safety of those who use it,” he said.
The municipal president explained that the situation is associated with the geological and topographic conditions typical of the mountainous area surrounding the Maracay-Choroní highway, which is limited by steep slopes and natural channels.
