Gil: We are proud of our electoral system and we show it to the world like a jewel

“We Venezuelans are proud of our electoral system and we show it to the world as a jewel of our democracy,” emphasized the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, in statements made this Thursday.

After reading a statement, in which Venezuela denounces the non-compliance of pre-electoral agreements by the United States, the Foreign Minister said that a sign of the trust of the Venezuelan people in the electoral system was the participation of just over 1,400,000 people in the day of registration and updating of the Permanent Electoral Register (REP).

“Yesterday we saw an increase of 40%, the registration of 13 candidates, with 37 political organizations, yesterday the REP closed with more than 600,000 new registrants and at least 800,000 people who came to update their data; this shows that the Venezuelan people trust their electoral system,” he said.

The head of Creole diplomacy reported that as part of the actions to demonstrate the transparency of the electoral system to the world, in addition to the Carter Center and the Technical Commission of the European Union, among other organizations and movements in the region, this Thursday the African Union confirmed its presence in this process after receiving an invitation from Venezuela.
