The German government revealed the implementation of a controversial project that allows police to carry out secret searches of the homes of citizens who consume or share unconventional content on social networks.

According to media reports such as Der Spiegel and RND cited by the Venezuelan news agency Venezuela News, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) may be authorized to carry out house searches without the need for a prior court order.

The plan contemplates not only the direct search of homes, which would be carried out without prior notice, but also the possibility of installing spyware on the electronic devices of suspects, such as computers and smartphones, if they are considered to have opinions contrary to the establishment.

A spokesman for the German Interior Ministry refrained from discussing the specific details of the proposal, but highlighted the need for security agencies to have the right tools to deal with threats. However, this approach contravenes existing legislation, which protects the inviolability of the home under article 13 of the Constitution. This new initiative has attracted opposition from the German Association of Journalists (DJV). Whose president, Mika Beuster, warned that these secret home searches by German police could jeopardize freedom of expression and the work of journalists. Evoking memories of methods used by police states.
