This Sunday, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced the dissolution of the National Assembly after learning of his party's defeat in the European elections, as reported by Russia Today (RT), on his website.

According to the votes reached, the ruling party “is not a good result for the parties that defend Europe,” Macron acknowledged in a speech, and stressed that “extreme right (...) movements are making progress across the continent”.

“In a few moments I will sign the decree calling for legislative elections for June 30, for the first round, and July 7, for the second round,” he said, adding that he cannot “act as if nothing had happened.”

The polls in France give a clear majority to the far-right National Group (RN), which would obtain almost twice as many votes (31.5%) as Renaissance (15.2%), the ruling party of President Emmanuel Macron. The third place would be occupied by the Socialist Party with 14% of support.
