Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced the application of night curfews located in Paris and in the department of the North. The government measure also includes a total ban on public demonstrations in these regions, intensifying security restrictions in response to the wave of mobilizations in the country.

According to information provided by Telesur, critics and demonstrators denounce an authoritarian bias in the Executive's decision, stating that it resorts to police deployment, mobility restrictions and mass arrests instead of responding to social demands. They also warn that these provisions violate the right to protest and seek to justify a possible state of emergency to expand the power of the security forces.

Despite the fact that more than 2,300 people remain in police custody and the Public Prosecutor's Office requires mass preventive detention, popular organizations maintain their position of resistance. The “yellow vest” movement has openly challenged government prohibitions by calling for a new national day of protest for October 24.

The political scene in the European nation shows a growing climate of tension between law enforcement and mobilized citizens, while various social groups demand an immediate end to repression and the opening of channels of effective dialogue.
