On March 28, 1750, the politician, soldier, diplomat, writer, humanist and ideologist Francisco de Miranda was born in Caracas.

He was one of the most recognized heroes in Venezuela for defending his independence ideals and for being considered the forerunner of American Emancipation against the Spanish Empire.

Son of Sebastián de Miranda Ravelo and Francisca Antonia Rodríguez de Espinoza. He studied at the University of Caracas. In 1771, he traveled to Europe where he began his military career. Some time later he fought alongside George Washington for the independence of the United States. He then traveled to London and promoted Spanish-American independence.

Around the time of 1777, Miranda began compiling her library, as well as her archives and her diary, taking an interest in texts of new ideas and general culture.

The Precursor of American Emancipation created the first Venezuelan flag, raising it for the first time on his ship Leander, in the marina of Jacmel, Haiti, on March 12, 1806. It was deployed on Venezuelan soil on August 3 of that same year, in the Choir Candle.

On April 19, 1810, he was appointed president of the first Congress of Venezuela. In 1811, he was promoted to the rank of Generalissimo.

Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda preceded the idea of creating Gran Colombia, formed in 1819 by: Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, dissolved in 1839. Currently, all its files are in the Academy of History of Caracas, after the Venezuelan Government compared them to England
