Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa denounced this Thursday the arrest of the former assembly member and former presidential candidate for the Citizens' Revolution, Luisa González, in the midst of a procedure carried out in Ecuadorian territory that the progressive leadership has described as a new attack of coordinated political persecution from the national government.
According to information highlighted by Telesur, the president warned about the arrest of the political leader during the early morning, repudiating the actions of local justice bodies and demanding the immediate cessation of harassment against the main representatives of the Ecuadorian opposition, stating verbatim: “Luisa González was arrested. That's enough!!!! #EcuadorVencerá”.
The arrest of the opposition leader comes within the framework of investigations opened by the State Attorney General's Office linked to alleged irregularities in electoral funding, actions that the political movement has repeatedly rejected as part of a strategy to disable popular leadership and weaken citizen organization.
Faced with this new episode of judicialization of politics in the Andean nation, various social movements and sectors related to the Citizens' Revolution expressed their rejection of the systematic use of the state apparatus against progressive leadership, confirming the need to maintain mobilization and international solidarity in the face of the coercive measures of the Ecuadorian Executive.
