The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, stamped his rubric this Wednesday in support of the 238 Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador and in rejection of the illegal immigration policies of the Donald Trump administration in the United States (USA).
During the day of collecting signatures in Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, the Foreign Minister stressed his support “for that population that settled for various reasons in other countries. Fundamentally, we are now talking to those who are affected, who are living in the United States, who with their efforts, with their intelligence and their resources, settled in another country to work, to produce, to seek better conditions for that specific country and that today is being attacked.”
He stressed that actions against compatriots abroad are “the product of xenophobic hate speech that sowed fascist opposition, the extreme right in Venezuela. We remember the disastrous words, for example, of Julio Borges, who described that Venezuelan migrant population as a 'plague', which was forced to leave precisely because of the blockade, because of the effect of the sanctions at the time and who today are trying to return at the time of economic recovery.”
Gil transmitted the message of solidarity and support from the Bolivarian Government, which “faithful to the mandate given by the Constitution to protect all Venezuelans wherever they are, is here, standing up. More than standing up, working to ensure that everyone can return with well-being, with health, to the reunion with their family”.
