Foreign Minister Yván Gil presents Venezuela's achievements in food security to the UN Special Rapporteur

The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, met this Thursday with the special rapporteur of the United Nations (UN) on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, to whom he explained the devastating effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against the Venezuelan people.

Through his account on the social network X, the Foreign Minister indicated that the UN official will be in the country until February 14 “to collaborate in strengthening the food security of our population and to observe the challenges we continue to face in the midst of a continuous policy of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington.”

After the meeting, Gil stated that Venezuela is working together with the Special Rapporteur, who for two weeks will develop an intense agenda of meetings with authorities related to the country's food system and economic sector.

He highlighted the “effort and work that the Bolivarian Government is doing to overcome sanctions (...) How we have gone from an almost total impact on our agri-food system to today having a Venezuela with full supply, with full access to food for all Venezuelans; the efforts we have made in terms of local agricultural production”.

In this regard, the diplomat highlighted the contribution of peasants, agribusiness and the Venezuelan fishing and agro-urban system, as well as the efforts of the Ministry of Popular Power for Food and the Local Committees for Supply and Production (CLAP).

“Venezuela has the capacity to showcase all the achievements in these 25 years of Revolution to guarantee access to food”, despite multiple attacks against the national economy by North American imperialism and its internal and external allies.
