Faced with the new threats of military intervention against Venezuela expressed by the Secretary of State of the United States (USA), Marco Rubio, the foreign minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, emphasized that the South American nation “does not give in to intimidation.”
Through his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan diplomat noted that Rubio's hostile attitude is not surprising. “We know that old script of threats and bravado with which a self-conscious person aspires to frighten sovereign peoples,” he said.
In this regard, he stated that “Venezuela does not give in to intimidation, nor does it give in to the blackmail of those who believe that with inflammatory speeches they can twist history or take away our historical rights, Simon Bolivar's children are not afraid of him.”
Gil stressed that Venezuela is “a peace-loving country”, and confirmed that “we will defend it using all available means, with the force of reason and the legitimacy of our rights.”
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister's response comes after statements made by the U.S. official during his visit to Guyana, where he militarily threatened Venezuela in the event of new inflows to undelimited waters and described the Essequibo controversy as an “illegitimate claim”.
“We don't need or seek conflicts, but we won't allow foreign interests to try to rewrite the reality about our Essequibo. That territory is and will always be Venezuelan, and its recovery will take place within the only valid framework: the Geneva Agreement of 1966. Get your nose out of this controversy!” , Gil said.
Finally, he stressed that the Bolivarian Government will not allow Rubio to “turn this into a battlefield for the interests of the transnational corporations of Exxon Mobil and his country's military industrial complex.”
