Fly high! Luis Mendoza, a national football legend, has died

This Monday, April 19, Venezuelan football woke up in
mourning after the unfortunate death of the historic midfielder, Luis Mendoza, at 78 years old, considered
to be one of the most important players in the history of Venezuela.
The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), through a
message posted on its social networks, mourned
the sensitive death of “Mendocita”, legend of our National Team.
“Our deepest condolences to his family, friends
and loved ones. Rest in peace!! , said the FVF.
For its part, the Venezuelan Football League (Liga FUTVE) posted
an emotional message on its account on the social network X: “It's very sad to say goodbye to the first
big crack in Venezuelan football, but a ball on his feet was a joy for
everyone who enjoyed seeing him on a court, and with joy we will remember him”.
He also said that there are numbers, facts and anecdotes that
speak of his talent and everything he did for his country and for the
Venezuelan player in his twenty-year professional career, “his human quality deepened
that legacy, because then he never tired of teaching, of transmitting what he knew.
He didn't stop playing with a lot of class either!”
“To your family and friends, a big hug at this time
of pain. Know that we share your sorrow just as we share that remaining
pride,” said the FUTVE League.
Mendocita was part of iconic Venezuelan teams such as
Deportivo Galicia, Deportivo Italia, Estudiantes de Mérida (the team where
he became its first captain) and Portuguesa FC.
Luis Mendoza was born in Caracas on June 21, 1945, and since
his debut he has captivated fans with his talent and tenacity in the midfield. He represented
his country in numerous international competitions, including
world cup qualifiers and editions of the Copa América.
